LAGET AV RAJLAKSHMI I INDIA:

Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills is a pioneer in organic garment manufacturing in India which seeks to combine high-quality tailoring with a fair deal for farmers and workers, whilst supporting local environmental and social projects.

People Tree and Rajlakshmi believe both in social sustainability as well as environmental sustainability, which is why we choose organic cotton. Organic cotton is grown without the use of insecticides, pesticides and nitrogen fertilisers. Not only does this reduce the cost by 38% for farmers, but it also protects them from being exposed to toxic chemicals and eliminates the greenhouse gas emissions created though the production of these chemical fertilizers. Through organic farming, soils remain healthy and sequester more carbon helping to mitigate climate change. Water consumption is reduced up to 91%, and there is a 40% reduction of C02 emissions per tonne of cotton fibre.

Style: People Tree AW19 V&A designer collaboration. A-line skirt with elasticated waist in an inspired retro-style floral print. Skirt features: Elasticated waist.

Print: This floral pattern has more than a touch of 60s flower power about it. The colourful flower design is the work of revolutionary designer and couturier, Paul Poiret (1879–1944) whose Parisian shop, atelier Martine, brought his aesthetic of abstracted natural elements and colour to fruition on furnishing fabrics.

Material: Vegan. Extra soft organic cotton jersey. Our organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment with systems in place to replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilisers, and build biologically diverse agriculture.
